Blogshopped

Two days, one leafy crown, and a label maker later and I'm officially a Blogshop graduate!

I feel like I learned more in one weekend from Bri and Angela than I ever did in the semester long Photoshop class I took in college. Spending a weekend with them and all the other creative ladies who dragged their Macbooks to Williamsburg was beyond inspirational. I found myself geeking out every 10 minutes when more and more Photoshop capabilities were revealed with a lot of "THAT'S how you do that?!?" moments.

I have pages and pages of notes and all I want to do now is practice my new skills all.day.long. (sadly the man insists I work a 9-5) so let's just say changes to this little blog o' mine are coming!

Head of the Charles

Cambridge and Somerville are a font of weekend activities and this past weekend was no exception.

Head of the Charles celebrated it's 49th annual regatta Saturday and Sunday which meant road closures and food tents for everyone!

We got down to the event a little later than the website recommended but we still saw a good number of boats, I got a soft pretzel, and we could sit right up front because the crowds had since dispersed. That's an all star Cambridge Saturday.

The Harvard University Marching Band was suddenly parading through the middle of Harvard Square

Because why wouldn't a Mini Cooper be driving down the Charles?

As an added bonus to being late to the festivities and needing a place to warm up we stumbled across the new Beat Hotel (owned by the same fine folk who operate The Beehive). And it might have been my favorite part of the weekend.

This place has live jazz every day, a great menu, and a killer cocktail list. I'd highly recommend adding this place to your "activities list" frands (oh, am I the only one with one of those?).

Mmm shadow-y snacks

Till next time Beat Hotel...

First Day

The first day at a new job is very reminiscent of the first day of school to me.

Worries about where I'm going to sit, if I will succeed in my new role, and what I should wear always run through my head. A lot of the common "first day" fears are things that are out of your control but luckily what to wear is not.

To calm some of my nerves I've, of course, made an inspiration board of different outfits based on office culture. I'm not too certain about my new place yet but I'm thinking I'm going to follow the "it's better to be over dressed" rule.

Happy Monday frands! Wish me luck!

Cambridge Open Market

For the past four years I've been lucky enough to work a schedule that allows me to have every other Friday off. I've been spoiled by my regular three day weekends but those are about to come to an end as I start my new job (eek!) next week.

To celebrate one of my last extra long weekends I decided to finally get myself to Cambridge Open Market. It's run by the same organization that does SoWa so we were basically made for each other.

Food trucks, talented vendors, and vintage sellers all set up shop right in Harvard Square and it's pure perfection on a cool fall day.

Loving that fashion trucks are a thing now
Found my first "Play Me I'm Yours" street piano

And a (semi) unrelated picture but I loved all the colorful benches Harvard had out around their campus.

HONK!

In all my time as a Somerville resident I've somehow managed to miss HONK! Festival every year. But this year was going to be different - I wasn't gonna miss it!

HONK is a weekend festival of activist street bands where people from all over the country come to celebrate, parade, and be merry. It ends in Harvard Square where there are street vendors, performers, food, and beer gardens a plenty. The perfect kind of fall activity if you ask me.

Mimes make me uncomfortable but they were a fun band nonetheless
Stilt walkers everywhere
We rounded out our festivities appropriately enough with a sing-a-long on one of the "Play My, I'm Yours" Boston Street Pianos (followed by two killer wins by the Pats and Red Sox - hellz yea).

KRo played a mean "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and was a close second to Chris' performance:

So. many. treasures.

My love for all things thrifting is no secret. Yard sales, antiques markets, consignment shops...you name it, I attend it. Thankfully Callan and I share the same elderly woman passion and she's always down for early morning yard sale adventures. (There's even an app for that.)

So bright and early with a list of addresses in hand we were prepared to hit up some killer "estate sales". We're gonna get so many treasuresssss!!!!

NOPE.

Bad news is people falsely advertised and merely had sad folding tables covered in crap. Good news is Callan introduced me to Cambridge Antique Market! That place is four floors of flea market heaven and my mind melted with excitement.

I left empty handed because I was so overwhelmed with wanting everything but I think I need to go back and pray these red chairs are still there...

If anyone's still looking for a gown to wear to my DAR ball, I have just the one for you...

And maybe pick up one of the above since I am looking for new wall art...because who wouldn't want old pictures of creepy children they've never met?

Friday Funny

This is a bit of an oldie but a goodie.

But that chow puppy needs to find a way into my life because I've had this video on repeat more often than I'd like to admit this week.

Happy weekend frands!

So you think you're fancy...

I have somehow managed to wander my way onto a DAR email list.

What is DAR? Excellent question. Google tells me that it's none other than the prestigious Daughters of the American Revolution.

I don't know much about this organization but the emails I've received so far indicate that it involves wearing a fancy pin and several meetups at bars and restaurants. Alright DAR, you have my attention...

Now I'm just curious as to how my name got onto such a list, especially since it's for the NY Chapter. Did I inadvertently sign up after one too many glasses of wine on one of my NYC weekends? Wouldn't put it past me.

I can only assume that the world has finally heard my wishes for someone to throw me a giant party to introduce me to society like a real lady. My imagination has designed the aforementioned party as follows:

Attire: Nothing says "welcome to society" like a $500 gown
Venue: A ballroom is a must for any fine young woman
Food: These sorts of events always seem very similar to weddings to me so Konditor Meister cake I shall have!

This may look like I have spent too much time and energy thinking about what my apparent "membership" means (not an unfair observation) but it's been a slow week.

Soooo who wants to come to my nonexistent party??

Autumn Wishes

The Downtown Field Jacket  Coconuts Britain Riding Boot  Penfield Stokes Checked Flannel Shirt   Coincidence & Chance Foxy Geek Sweater  Long Wraparound Scarf  Ecote Festical Ankle Boot  Sweater with Elbow Patches  Owl Moccasin  Double Pocket Top

Despite the fact that the weather seems to be having regular mood swings and I can't figure out if I should be wearing tank tops or sweaters I've been working on my fall wish list.

I keep trying to impose "anti-shopping" periods on my life but let's be real, those never work out as planned. There are just so many sweaters, military jackets, and boots calling my name right now.

Sooo as a compromise (with myself) I'm trying to be good and solely buy from sales and consignment and use my wish list merely as a guideline.

We'll see how this goes...in the meantime, enjoy these pretties that have stolen my heart.

Weekend in Review

This past weekend wasn't one filled with big events but it was perfect just the same. The beau came to Boston for a longer than usual visit and that's all this girl needs to make for a wonderful weekend. There was puppy cuddling, movies, drinks, and good food to make up for the dreary weather and now I'm just counting down the days till my next Brooklyn adventure (so soon! I never thought I'd become this fond of NYC)

Happy Tuesday everyone!

A picture is a poem without words

I'm in the market for some new wall art. More specifically, I'm in the market for some new wall art that costs less than $50.

So to my trusty old friend Etsy I went!

I could spend hours on that site and I quickly decided that this guy would be finding a new home above our TV (despite a certain roommates' dismay - a 3 vs. 1 vote means I win, schorry).

Now I just need to find something to hang over our couch. I'm being indecisive and can't decide what kind of look I want to go with but I think I'm leaning towards the mixed media prints on old book pages.

Which is your favorite?

Friday Favorites [according to my iPhone]

Oops, I've been a quiet one this week.

I've had some big news that I've been holding out on mixed in with an inexplicable desire to constantly sleep (is it too late in the week to still be blaming that on the half marathon?) so I thought I'd roundup a few of my favorite things this week - courtesy of my iPhone.

Have a lovely weekend frands!
