Antique Treasures

Now maybe this is my inner 80 year old speaking but I love a good antique barn.

Knowing this and the fact that it was going to rain most of Friday, Papa Dukes was kind enough to plot an antiquing route around the lake for us to explore (he's a good one that dad of mine). He happily drove us around and wandered through at least eight shops with us. We got some history lessons from adorable shop owners and I snagged a couple little things - a jewelry dish, candle plate, and flower print.

There were so many dishes and bowls and glassware pieces that I was dying to have but unfortunately don't have the space for right now so I put them on my wishlist for when I hopefully have my own place that I can decorate from scratch one day.

On our drive back we made our obligatory stop at The Old Country Store. We've been going there since as far back as I can remember when we'd come up to stay at our grandparents time share. This place has been in business since 1781 and is chock full of pickles, giant wheels of cheese, penny candy, and copious amount of knick knacks.

Tomatoes and Cheese and Berries...Oh My!

I could really get used to life at the lake my friends. Yesterday was spent with some leisurely morning reading on our deck until the weekly farmer's market in town opened up. I'm a sucker for a good farmer's market and this place did not disappoint, everything was gorgeous looking!

I got myself a pretty honey candle from the sweetest old man ever and we stocked up on fruits, vegetables, and cheese for lunch. After our venture there was nothing to do but relocate to the dock to eat our bounty, do some more reading, nap, and feed my new pet ducks that swam by every half hour looking for more bread.

Now it's time to squeeze in the last of our lake living fun today before we have to head back to reality tomorrow!

The rain finally let up yesterday which meant it was time to venture into town to find my favorite candy shop ever. Six bars of nut free chocolate and a variety of other old school candies later we finally left the shop (though I'm sure I'll be back at least once more this week) and wandered through some of the tourist shops until we found our way to the local tavern. I've found one of the many benefits of being an adult on vacation with your parents is that they enjoy having a drinking buddy who's always down to order apps and beers with you.

Later we got brother and cousin to meet us at the local brick oven pizzeria for some deliciousness and papa dukes and I spent the remainder of the evening fishing. Big news of the day....I caught my first fish of the week! It was just a little yellow perch but I was very proud of my little fish.

Lake Essentials

It's supposed to rain all day at the lake today but luckily the weathermen tell me it's the last dreary day of the week. This weather has a habit of making me want to curl up on the couch and catch up on my lady blogs and as a result most of the day will be spent in sweatpants if I'm a betting woman. Luckily I have my lake essentials packed away with me that I'm ready to whip out once the sun returns to us tomorrow!
