Boston Strong

What a week it was for Boston.

Everything was starting to feel like it was easing back into "normal" when my phone started lighting up with notifications again as I was playing trivia out in Cambridge Thursday night. As the whole city and surrounding areas were put on a shelter in place advisory on Friday it was surreal to see normally busy neighborhoods empty and silent. The beau lives one street over from the suspects home and I spent much of the morning with a stomach ache until I got a hold of him and I couldn't believe what I was seeing as he sent me pictures of the intense police presence on his street.

There aren't words to express the thanks and immense gratitude I feel towards law enforcement and first responders. They did an incredible job in this crisis and the city will forever be in their debt. Walking around Friday night we passed the crime scene that is the suspects street and I just wanted to hug every police officer I saw.

On Saturday we ventured out to walk through the MIT campus and visited the memorial for Officer Sean Collier outside the MIT police station. We then crossed the river to pass by the festivities at Fenway and wandered all the way down to Boylston Street to visit the memorials that have popped up on either end of the street. We spent some time leaving notes for those we've lost and hanging out with the therapy dogs that were wonderfully hanging out for pets and hugs.

It was nice to be walking around in the sun but still eery to see all the police, military, tanks, and search party around Boylston and Newbury streets. Though, through the all the terrible things that occurred during the last week the feeling of togetherness that we're currently experiencing as a city is one that I hope lasts for weeks to come.

Big Papi said it best: "This is our fucking city!"

Perspective

Yesterday I spent the morning in a bad mood. I was frustrated with a non functioning work computer, I was grumpy that I couldn't celebrate Marathon Monday because I had to be at work, I was upset with someone close to me over something silly, and I was all around being a sour puss.

Then my phone started lighting up with tweets of breaking news. My Facebook was going crazy with updates from people who were there and with loved ones trying to get in touch with others. A group email to my roommates was circulating quickly to make sure everyone was safe. Texts and calls were coming in from friends and family living all across the country making sure that I hadn't decided to go down and celebrate the runners. It was a crazy afternoon trying to wrap my mind about what had just happened and constantly checking the news to get any information I could.

The events at yesterday's marathon are unbelievable and my heart is breaking for my city. The amount of love and concern expressed from people everywhere is touching and to see us get together as a city and a nation to help one another is truly inspiring in the wake of such terror. Things were really put into perspective after my pity party of a morning and I realized those things that I thought were ruining my day really were nothing but silly little things. Now all of my thoughts and prayers are with the victims of yesterdays senseless act.

So here's to you Boston. We are a strong city and will bounce back stronger than ever. I hope we find those responsible and can bring them to justice because they messed with the WRONG city.

Love you all.

How to help:
  • Donate blood - People have been unbelievably generous and there were reports of runners yesterday who just continued running to the hospital to donate blood after the bombings. You can donate blood here.
  • Open your home - There have been thousands of residents generously opening their homes to runners who have been stranded. You can fill out this form if you have space you can offer up.
  • Share Information - If you know anything or have any pictures of videos please contact the Boston Police Department's tip line: 1-800-494-TIPS or the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI

Whhaaatttt a downer.

If you don't follow college sports than kindly skip past this. If you do or you're a Quinnipiac kindred spirit then you know my current pain.

They had a great run but now I'm just having terrible flashbacks to when the Giants beat the Pats in the Superbowl, ending their perfect season. We were number one!! Wah.

And to Yale. To Yale of all places!! *Sigh*

At least the new Louis C.K. standup was on after to help cheer me on.

A Night in the Life

It has been well documented that I'm a very active sleeper. I've been walking and talking in my sleep since I was a kid (even had a night terror here and there - the parentals loved those). The beau thinks I should do a sleep study because I'm so chatty.

Flashback to last night when I was a busy little bee to my own disadvantage. My night time adventures ended with me waking up in a "I'm so late" panic because I was already supposed to be at work. Wondering what happened I started searching for my phone to see if the alarm just never went off but I couldn't find it...

5 minutes later I found it buried at the bottom of my purse, turned completely off with my alarms also turned off. Cool sleepwalking Michelle, that is not helpful during the work week but I'm glad you decided I needed more sleep today.

It makes me wonder what else I was up to last night since I often do fun activities like make breakfast and try to get dressed for the day. Both of which would've been helpful this morning in my lateness but, of course, neither happened this time.

Weird sleep habits example: I was out cold in this picture and the beau thought it was funny he could open my eye and I wouldn't wake up. Thanks man!

Super flattering picture of super sleepy me.

Till next time sleepwalking Michelle!

I'm Back! And I have pretty pictures!

I have been very bad with my little blog here. There's lots of reasons why this guy has fallen by the wayside a bit: work is bananas, I became obsessed with my apartments group blog, and there were wedding festivities galore.

So I thought I'd jump back on here with a few pictures I have on my phone from this weekends wedding of one of my oldest and dearest friends! The bride was stunning, the venue was gorgeous, the food was incredible, and the open bar encouraged some of our best dancing skills to come out as we danced the night away.

Congratulations Nora and Andy! I love you more than words can express, can't wait to hear all about the honeymoon!

Life Lately

I've been a bad little blogger again due to my recent endeavor over at Club Belmont. We're busy little bees who apparently were in desparate need for a hobby...

Anyways, I have a little photo recap of life lately ranging from the Bruins, Super Bowl Sunday, Superstorm Nemo, VDay (Offensive, I know. The holiday got the beau and I to participate this year), and some kitchen and restaurant experimentations.

Happy mid February kiddies - fingers crossed for no more snow!

Bruins • Too many Super Bowl Sunday dips for two people • Nemo bevs • Cards Against Humanity to carry us through the storm • Disney Power Hour (aka sing along) • Friends camping out with us during the storm • Shovel, shovel, and shovel some more • VDay Rose • Chalkboard Table at Brunch • Too dark picture of Muqueca • Grilled Cheese BLT Experiments •

And I leave you with a cool shot of Nemo from my roofdeck
