We're off to the races!

Saturday was finally race day and we had our best sundresses and coolers ready for the event.

Our host and his gorgeous girlfriend woke up at 6 AM to get in line at the track and sprint through the grounds to reserve six picnic tables for the group later that afternoon. What a fun tradition, right?? Hundreds of people line up outside the morning of the race and tape off areas, putting table cloths on picnic tables and then head home until the afternoon and everyone respects the markings. So classy.

After their successful trip they came back to pick up KRo and myself and we went to have brunch at the track and to watch the horses warm up. We inspected the horses over several cups of coffee and pretended to know what we were talking about...."Always bet on the grey horse".

Then it was game time: we dragged the coolers and snacks from the car, bought our programs, googled the types of bets we could make, watched the first race having no idea what was going on, and finally marched right up to the window to make our first bets.

"$2. Quinella. 2 and 4." - We're basically pros with our high rolling two dollar bets.

Sure, I only won $13 over 12 races and didn't know what was happening for at least the first four races but we had the best time cheering on the horses, eating mac & cheese and poutine, and chatting with new friends over drinks at our picnic tables.

That night what seemed like everyone who'd been at the track walked down the street to a local bar to enjoy a few more adult beverages and dance the night away with an incredible live band.

Needless to say, I'm in love with this past weekend. Well done, Saratoga Springs, well done.
