HONK!

In all my time as a Somerville resident I've somehow managed to miss HONK! Festival every year. But this year was going to be different - I wasn't gonna miss it!

HONK is a weekend festival of activist street bands where people from all over the country come to celebrate, parade, and be merry. It ends in Harvard Square where there are street vendors, performers, food, and beer gardens a plenty. The perfect kind of fall activity if you ask me.

Mimes make me uncomfortable but they were a fun band nonetheless
Stilt walkers everywhere
We rounded out our festivities appropriately enough with a sing-a-long on one of the "Play My, I'm Yours" Boston Street Pianos (followed by two killer wins by the Pats and Red Sox - hellz yea).

KRo played a mean "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and was a close second to Chris' performance:

Autumn Wishes

The Downtown Field Jacket  Coconuts Britain Riding Boot  Penfield Stokes Checked Flannel Shirt   Coincidence & Chance Foxy Geek Sweater  Long Wraparound Scarf  Ecote Festical Ankle Boot  Sweater with Elbow Patches  Owl Moccasin  Double Pocket Top

Despite the fact that the weather seems to be having regular mood swings and I can't figure out if I should be wearing tank tops or sweaters I've been working on my fall wish list.

I keep trying to impose "anti-shopping" periods on my life but let's be real, those never work out as planned. There are just so many sweaters, military jackets, and boots calling my name right now.

Sooo as a compromise (with myself) I'm trying to be good and solely buy from sales and consignment and use my wish list merely as a guideline.

We'll see how this goes...in the meantime, enjoy these pretties that have stolen my heart.

Fall Uniform

I'm definitely a comfort kind of girl and once I find something that (in my mind) looks fab and is supremely comfortable I stick with the idea. If it ain't broke, don't fix it...right?

This has translated into many fall days in some variation of a white top, jeans, and my favorite new riding boots. I like to think that a different scarf or jacket mixes it up enough to distract the public from the fact that I'm essentially wearing different reincarnations of the same outfit.

Don't get me wrong, I love checking my favorite blogs for inspiration and throwing my new pink denim and chambray shirt into the mix but in my mind my fall uniform screams "I just did so many fall activities in my perfect fall outfit!". So I'm gonna stick with what works :)

What's your fall uniform? (...so I can steal more inspirations!)

1. Loose Tee 2. Cashmere Scarf 3. Michael Kors Watch 4. Long Layering Necklace 5. Skinny Jeans 6. Casual Button Up
7. Riding Boots 8. Printed Scarf 9. Olive Jacket 10. Studded Bracelet

It's rally cap time!

I know what you're thinking... "Cool, you went to Fenway again. Booorrrriiinnnggg". I get it. But what can I say, the Red Sox are my first love ever since I started watching games with my dad when I was but a wee little girl.

Also, when a friend calls you with free tickets cus they're handing them out like candy right now you say yes. (Although there was the catch of taking her bosses German exchange student to get the tickets - good thing I'm a weirdo who's obsessed with Germany and did an exchange there in high school huh?)

Free activities are my favorite! Especially when free activities include a fall night at a ball park, beer, hot dogs, and quality time with my darling friend.

BONUS: William Shatner and Brian Evans were there to film a music video that included Steven Seagal...I mean is that not the best combo of people ever or what??

Good news though! Today's the last home game of the season so this is my last Fenway posting till next spring...womp womp. What are other good fall activities?

The 2004 Championship team was there!

Dinner of Champions - did I buy french fries just because they came in a cool plastic hat? Yes.
Did I forget the hat at the stadium? Maybe...

My peach Nora and me

Rally Karaoke Guy Kevin Millar was there to help in the 9th - too bad we still lost...

Apples Apples Everywhere!

This past Saturday marked the official first day of fall. While I'm sad to see my beach days behind me I was excited to kick the season off in good ole New England fashion...apple picking!!

Though I was sweating to death in my apple picking appropriate mid 70s inappropriate boots and sweater (weather.com is for the weak) ensemble I had a wonderful Saturday afternoon with some of my all time favorite people. We climbed ladders to get the best apples up top, bought way too many apple cider donuts, and viewed the petting zoo from afar to avoid the screaming children strung out on caramel apples.

Basically this weekend was New England fall perfection. Can't wait for pumpkin picking time so I can pretend I'm going to carve it and then leave it on the counter for a couple of weeks to admire it from a knife-free distance.

She's basically a seasoned vet - look at that form

Honey Pot Hill Orchard - Stow, MA

Getting the best Macs up top, Brooke knows what's up

Mmmm delicious - what should I bake with all my goods?

Little Things - Fall Edition

Now that the weather is resistant to being anywhere near 80I've accepted my cold weather fate. It appears there's nothing left to do but to start prepping my closet for fall and though I'm sad to push my sundresses to the back, my boots and sweaters are like long lost friends that are fresh and fun again! But what are long lost friends without a couple of new ones to play with too?

Two pairs of boots and a jacket later and I feel like I've just barely cracked the surface. Although, until I win the lottery it looks like I'm gonna have to pace my shopping problem habits. (I smell a nice leather tote I can fit my laptop in in my future friends.)

Here are my current shopping "conquests" and shopping "to dos". What are you closet plans for the cold weather?

                                           Conquests

1. Coconuts Blakely Wide Calf Riding Boot - DSW
2. Evilsizer Black Boots - Call It Spring
3. Combined Wool Jacket - Zara

To Do

1. Mulberry Legging Jeans - Gap
2. Paige Pinking Shears Tote - Banana Republic
3. Oversized Boyfriend Sweater - Gap

Recent Discovery

So, since my weekend mostly consisted of "helping people move" and getting sucked into a self-induced Mad Men marathon I sadly don't have any exciting pictures of my fabulous life to share today. (Unless seeing me in various sweatpant outfits switching between the couch and my bed is of great interest to people...No? Yea, didn't think so.)

Good news though friends! A discovery was recently made and it is a ground breaking one in my book...Zara has AMAZINGGG jewelry now! While I don't know if this is actually a new addition to their merchandise, it is new to me and I couldn't help making myself a pretty little wishlist this lazy weekend. Going to add some to my fall fashion "must haves". Just because I work full time now doesn't mean I can't go back to school shopping...am I right??

Got this beauty for my bday this year from one of my favorite ladies
Teardrop Choker
Neon and studs are easily my favorite combo, must have this bracelet

The pearls on this necklace make it a fun way to dress up an otherwise boring work outfit.

Football Goodies

I swear I love writing on this thing. Due to some unforeseen extended hours at my place of business, leaving my friends wondering if I’m still alive, I have had little time to write. Though, thanks to the power of smart phones, I have stored lots of little blogging ideas and pictures for when I reemerged into society. So without further adieu…

Football is one of the few joys I get out of the cold weather seasons but how can I complain when it brings me delicious food, good natured yelling at my TV (I’m looking at you Eli Manning), and the opportunity to plot how beautiful my wedding to Tom Brady would be (come on, you know you do too). Even though I make a mean grilled cheese I’ve recently been trying to get more adventurous with my cooking skills and the Patriots-Giants game sounded like the perfect opportunity to ease into it. This Sunday I regaled my guests with homemade salsa, guacamole (which I sadly can’t find my picture of womp womp), kale chips, and snickerdoodle cookies and it turned out pretty gosh darn good thankyouverymuch. Next conquest? Chili.

Extra spicy salsa yummm

They may not look like your ideal chip but they come out

so light and crunchy you’ll fall in love instantly.

Snickerdoodles! If you don’t love these cookies for

the name alone you’re crazy in my book.

Boots, boots, boots!

Despite giving my favorite dresses and summer outfits one last showing thanks to the surprise 80 degree weather these past couple of days I’ve been secretly creating a cold weather wish list in my Firefox bookmarks. My current desire? Boots, boots, and more boots! Last year I was all about the riding boots so this year I’m working on adding to my (slowly but surely) growing collection. These are my current “must haves”:

1. Steve Madden Candence

2. Steve Madden Bonanza

3. Aldo Laughead

4. Prada Leather Tall Boot in Mogano (a girl can dream can’t she?)

Fall's Here, time to Blog!

As fall starts to settle in and I start daydreaming about all the boots I’d like to give a good home to in my closet I thought this would be the perfect time to start a blog where I can share all of my favorite things. It's the little things that make me happy and my blog will focus on my favorite topics: shopping, decorating, people, and food. So, without further adieu, welcome to my blog and to starting new adventures!
